The Audies were held on March 4, 2019, and for the tenth time in my career, I was nominated for an award by the Audio Publishers Association. This year’s nomination was for Best Fantasy for SECOND HAND CURSES, which I perfomed with Marc Vietor and Scott Aiello for Audible Studios. AudioFile Magazine gave the title an Earphones Award (my 20th!), noting in their review, “Each of the many secondary characters is easily identifiable, with Gilbert earning special praise for crafting so many distinct female characters.” What a pleasure to perform live in the studio with Scott and Marc—something I love and look forward to more of!
We didn’t win, but as always, it was a joy to celebrate great audiobooks with my colleagues. The high point was finally meeting my friend, the wonderful science fiction writer John Scalzi (pictured here with me) in person! There were so many worthy finalists this year, but I was especially excited that Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally won, because I absolutely adored their book, THE GREATEST LOVE STORY EVER TOLD. (It kept me company — and kept me laughing hysterically — on my recent drive to Vermont College of Fine Arts to teach over the winter holidays.) Congratulations to all the finalists and winners! You looked fabulous!
