Mystery/Suspense/Thriller

Tavia Gilbert narrates the first audiobook in this engaging mystery series with just the right quirkiness. Hope Walker couldn’t wait to escape from her dinky town, Hopeless, Idaho. After she loses her job as investigative reporter for the “Portland Gazette,” she reluctantly returns to Hopeless for her grandma’s funeral. The joke’s on Hope, though, because her unpredictable granny isn’t really dead. Granny just wanted to enjoy her own funeral, and she wanted Hope to come home. At the faux funeral, the sheriff turns up really dead, and Hope is the prime suspect. Gilbert is delightful as snarky Hope and outrageous Granny and all the local suspects Hope’s investigation unearths. Gilbert delivers a lighthearted adventure with lots of laughs and a genuine mystery. — AudioFile Magazine
