Forgive Me
PI Angie DeRose specializes in finding runaway teenagers. While she navigates the dark world of sexual slavery looking for her newest runaway, Nadine, Angie’s own life is suddenly turned upside down when she discovers a terrible family secret after a tragic family death. The story is told from various perspectives, and Gilbert does an excellent job of narrating them all clearly and adjusting to every change in character and focus. Gilbert has a great talent for bringing eccentric characters to life, and that is evidenced in her portrayal of Nadine’s alcoholic mother. The pace and tone of this story change numerous times, and the shifts from tension and action to pain and sorrow are appropriately conveyed. The constant cultural references will date this work quickly, and although the different story lines don’t always flow, fans of Law and Order: SVU and Harlan Coben will appreciate Nadine’s story and Angie’s PI work.
